The school is known for the quality of education. For example, in 2004, it was 2nd among the top 10 schools in the Rajshahi Education Board in terms of results of the Secondary School Certificate Examination.[3]
Since its extablishment, Rangpur Zilla School has produced a lot of scientists, writers, University teachers, high officials and et al. A renowned atomic scientist recently late Dr. Wazed Miah, husband of honorable present Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, was the student of Rangpur Zilla School.

Prafulla Chaki
(Bengali: প্রফুল্ল চাকী Profullo Chaki) (1888–1908) was a Bengali revolutionary associated with the Jugantar group of revolutionaries who carried out assassinations against British colonial officials in an attempt to secure Indian independence.
Dr. M. A. Wazed Miah
(Bengali: ড. এম এ ওয়াজেদ মিয়া; 16 February 1942 – 9 May 2009) was a reputed Bangladeshi nuclear scientist, the writer of a number of well-known texts in physics and some political history books, a former Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and husband of honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Anisul Hoque
(Bengali: আনিসুল হক; born March 4, 1965) is a Bangladeshi screenwriter, novelist, dramatist and journalist. He passed SSC exam from Rangpur Zilla School in 1981 and HSC exam from Rangpur Carmichael College in 1983. Hoque graduated from BUET, trained as a civil engineer.
(Born 9 January 1931) was the Bangladesh's Chief of Army Staff from 1986 to 1990.Atiqur Rahman was Colonel and brigade commandar of chittagong during assasiantion of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. where he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed - Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army in September 1986 subsequently by the then President Hossain Mohammad Ershad.
